    2ND ANNUAL EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
    LITTER CLEAN-UP
    SATURDAY APRIL 27, 2019
    9:00 - 1:00 PM

    LOCATIONS:
    MAIN LOCATION: TOWN PAVILION SITE
    2ND LOCATION: TOWN TRANSFER STATION
    ( THE TURN AROUND PARKING AREA)
    3RD LOCATION: WEST GLOCESTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
    4TH LOCATION: FOGARTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

    Sponsors: Glocester Town Council, Conservation Commission, Recreation Commission, The Sand Dam Association, Glocester Business Association, Smithfield Plumbing, Dino’s, Dunkin’ Donuts

    Road Safety:  Glocester Police and Emergency Management Association will be helping with a presence on the main roads to ensure safe litter pick-up as well as trucks from GBA and Smithfield Plumbing that will pick up the trash bags as needed. 

    Supplies: DPW will supply gloves and trash bags. Dino’s donating 20 cases of water.  Dunkin' Donuts will supply coffee and munchkins for kick-off.  GBA providing some free T-shirts for kick-off

    Advertising:  An Ad will be placed in the Bargain Buyer, flyers and signs will be posted around town and posted on the town web-site. (Jean Fecteau)

    Location set-ups: Pat Henry and Judy Colaluca at Pavilion site. Ricco Colaluca and Vinc LePore at Transfer Station, Jamie LaRose and Robert Shields (Recreation) at Fogarty Elementary, Mike Ahnrud (Conservation) at West Glocester Elementary. Any teacher or parent support would be welcomed. 


    Let’s make Glocester not only the safest Community to live in, but the Cleanest Community to live in!

  • Reading Week: April 8-12

    History: Fact or Fiction?

    Throughout the week:

    1. “Reading Rocks” Read-a-thon from the bell Monday until 1pm on Friday. (Please see handout)

    2.  “In FACT... Caption Contest” (Please see handout)

    3.  Book fair!  Please see information from WGESCO.

    4. Math story problem contest (through Wednesday)

    Dress as a character from a historical fiction book. Please bring the book to carry with you.

    Wednesday

    Speech Meet

    Students attend an assembly where our 5th graders will perform poems and other short pieces.


    Math Story Problem winners announced.

    Book Swap

    Books were exchanged for tickets last week..  Teachers have tickets ready:) Classrooms will “shop” throughout the day.


    Last night to work on  “In FACT…” Caption Contest entries.

    4/12/19

    All contest winners will be announced today!!

    Last morning to submit your  “In FACT…” Caption Contest entry.

    Reading Rocks submissions due.

    Winners will be announced before the end of the day.

  • In Fact: Caption Contest

    In Fact… CaptionWriting Contest

    Be inspired by history!

    Directions:

    Choose a photo (on reverse) and use it to inspire your caption.

    Create a caption or fact for the photo.

    Write the caption or fact in your own handwriting.

    Put your name and grade in the bottom right hand corner of the caption.

    See below for grade-level expectations


    Pre-school-First Grade: Write a caption for the photo using the details. Captions should contain true things (facts) you can get by “reading the picture”.


    Grades 2-5:  Write one fact that goes beyond the picture and helps us learn more. See the school library homepage  for The World Book link for fast and easy research.


    CAPTIONS WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE FOYER TO HELP INSPIRE OUR IMAGINATIONS. A WINNER FROM EACH GRADE WILL BE DRAWN FROM THE CONTRIBUTIONS.

  • Book Swap: Week of April 1st
    During the week of April 1, each student is invited to bring in 2-4 gently used books to exchange for a Book Swap tickets (2 books= 1 ticket, 2 ticket maximum per student).  During Reading Week (April 8-12), students will go shopping for a “new” book with each ticket. Remaining books will be donated to Broad Street school in Providence to help readers in our greater community!

    The West Glocester community will be celebrating different disabilities each day for one week, as well as learning about some of the challenges children with disabilities work hard to overcome.
